Did you know that Modern Square Dancing is the Perfect Way to have Fun and Exercise ? Over the course of a single night's dancing, you can end up walking 5 miles. A lot cheaper and more fun than sweating it out in a gym. It is done strictly for the fun, fitness and the friendships that evolve. And speaking of fitness, there are various programs within the square dance activity, each program encompassing an increasing number of calls. Dancers may choose to continue learning new moves or remain at the level accomplished
Did you know that Modern Square Dancing is a "New Twist" on an Old Tradition ? Modern square dancing is derived from the traditional style. The dances were broken down into "moves," which are given names. This way the dancer doesn't have to memorize the complete dance, just learn the moves. Music choices for Modern Square dance include new and old country, classic rock, new rock, easy listening and classical tunes! We dance to any genre of music. Dancers learn a series of moves, and those moves are choreographed and then called by the caller.
If you're interested in learning more about modern square dancing, check out the Hi-Land Swingers in Calgary. The Hi-Land Swingers club is for couples only, which means that dancers must have a dancing partner for each lesson. There are singles clubs available. Check out The Swinging Singles web site. On class nights, most ladies wear casual skirts, prairie skirts or other square dance attire; men also dress casually. Choose any style of soft-soled shoes that are comfortable and do not leave black marks on the floor or that have not been worn outside.
