Join Us …

Monthly for an energetic, fun-filled dance experience where the music is upbeat, the laughter is contagious, and the people are welcoming. Because most have never tried Line and/or Square Dancing before, it’s the perfect place to get comfortable on the dance floor! No partner needed, no experience required, suitable for all ages.

Line Dancing is …

A synchronized group dance where individuals perform a repeating sequence of steps while arranged in lines, all facing the same direction. There is little to no physical contact between dancers. It is a social activity that can be enjoyed by people of different skill levels without the need for a partner.

Line Dance Instructor Murielle Clements brings 14 years of experience with line dancing. She dances with a group called KIC (Keeping It Country) who participate in the prelude to the Calgary Stampede Parade, and with a competitive group.

Modern Square Dancing is …

A multi-level dance program that evolved from the simple form of traditional square dancing. Dancers form teams of eight random people, some who have a lot of dance experience, and some who have little to none. Music varies from country to rock, pop, show tunes, latin, blue grass, and more.

How-To:
Step 1: Each team of dancers form a square of eight people, two per side.
Step 2: The Caller (dance instructor) teaches the calls (dance steps) and puts them together to form a dance.
Step 3: Caller calls out the calls, dancers dance the calls. When calls are missed or incorrectly done, attempts are made to “fix” the square as fast as possible, ready for the next call. This leads to a lot of laughter and collaboration.
Step 4: Repeat Steps 1 to 3.

Square Dance Callers, Tom Dakers and Dave Littlefair, will teach you the calls with step-by-step instructions and repetition. Tom’s been a Caller for 40 years, and Dave for 17 years. They especially enjoy teaching new dancers and sharing the fun that square dancing creates.
